Environmental impact evaluation is an essential component in environmental impact assessment study for any developmental project In China, the rapid development of local and regional transportation systems has been accompanied by environmental problems, which prove to be detrimental for the economic development, social stability and public health. The project METRASYS provide a prototype for an integrated environmental monitoring and simulation system. This project deals with one of the most exigent problems of current and future mega cities and metropolitan regions. Under a scenario, various case studies of environmental impacts caused by transport in urban areas have been studied using the REGOZON model. This model includes a built-in mesoscale meteorological model that computes the local meteorological fields from synoptic fields. Since the emission model strongly depends on the other submodels, the whole system architecture for traffic flow, traffic emissions and air pollution dispersion will also be introduced. This paper describes the methodology used to evaluate these impacts. Data bases for model input and simulation results, as well as a graphic user interface for spatial data visualization. Some of the results are presented here in this paper, in particular a scenario analysis for the region Hefei.
