Women in Management: a Comparative Research between Experiences in Brazil and China

摘要

The purpose of this paper is to present part of the results obtained from the MBA thesis study about experiences of women in management positions -seven in Brazil and seven in China. The research was conducted to provide a better understanding on the issue in Brazil and in China and, as a consequence, to stimulate the awareness of the role that gender diversity may play in business. The increasing of the participation of women in the workplace is remarkable although one may not overlook the fact that, in spite of their reaching of lower and middle levels of management positions, they seldom reach top management positions. So far, in management literature, the study of women in management has been a new field of research and comparisons among countries, limited. The results of the work can be expanded in future studies and it is presumed that the outcomes of this research will be able to give companies a different perspective on gender issues and a better evaluation about women's work within a corporation.
