This research work describes an attempt to develop modest reed construction systems used for interior partitions and facades with a suitable acoustic insulation, in order to be used preferably in rural houses or sustainable building. Previous measurements were carried out with reed panels to evaluate the airborne sound insulation properties of the material using the transmission chamber method. Results show that the sound transmission characteristics of reed panels of relatively small thickness, is comparable to that of conventional systems employed for the construction of partitions. The positive results obtained previously have directed the research to consider the possibility of using reed panels with other wood derivate product (MDF board) in order to improve the sound insulation between different spaces. This paper shows the results of the sound reduction index measurements obtained for different simple construction systems made of reed panels and MDF boards.
