THE USE OF REED PANELS IN SUSPENDED CEILINGS AND ROOM DIVIDERS

Nowadays, an enormous research work with environmentally sustainable building materials is being developed due to the great concerns over the environment. In recent years, an increasing attention has been turned to natural fibres in order to combine high acoustic and thermal performances with a low impact on the environment. The aim of the research described in this paper is to study new applications for this raw material in the field of acoustics, specifically using reed panels in suspended ceilings and room dividers. Previous tests performed with reed panels in a reverberation chamber and individual stems in an impedance tube showed a good sound absorption. In this paper, acoustic measurements are developed to obtain the absorption coefficient of the reed solutions investigated.
