The use of composite material for different products and structures continuously increases. Recently efforts are intensified to apply it also for various building elements. Good technical performance, durability, high structural strength combined with light weight, good resistance to corrosion etc. gives promising perspective for civil engineering applications. However, the acoustic performance and sound insulation is probably the critical point, particularly in the case of possible use in residential building. The paper presents results of laboratory sound insulation test carried out for composite panel prototypes intended for use in a building. Elements of three different structural types were investigated. The elements were installed in different arrangement and configurations as a wall or floor partition. Bare elements and elements with additional floor insulating layers were considered. Also double wall structures with a cavity and with the cavity filled with absorbing material were tested.
