The paper presents the development of a new approach for modelling stormwater runoff and infiltration processes of permeable pavements on the basis of numerous field and lab scale tests. The main objective of these investigations was to examine runoff and infiltration processes of different types of pervious pavement under various conditions. The results represent a large and reliable data base enabling detailed conclusions and appropriate calibration. The new approach will finally be based on a bi-directional layer model which takes into account rain dependent infiltration through the top layer, interactions between top layer, base layer and natural soil layer as well as infiltration capacities for different stages of clogging.
