THE OUTLOOK FOR THE DREDGING INDUSTRY IN CHINA

The dredging industry relates to many aspects of economic and social development in China, for example, construction and development of coastal and river harbors and navigation channels, construction of coastal industrial areas and development of coastal cities, flood control and dredging, environmental improvement, marine resources development and so forth. Its development will have a direct influence on improvement of China's overall strength and international competitiveness. Since the beginning of the 21st century, China's social advancement, economic development and environmental protection have created more needs for the dredging industry. Through decades of development, China has seen a continuously growing ability of dredging construction, rapidly changing dredging technology, and constant progress in dredging equipment R&D and manufacturing, which shows that China has already become a country capable of massive dredging operations. Facing severe challenges and rare development opportunities at home and abroad, China's dredging industry is expected to continue to give play to its advantages and put on the agenda the requirement of making China powerful in dredging. China's dredging industry will achieve its goal of "Powerful Country in Dredging" through three steps: "Basically Satisfy the Needs", "Improve on All Sides" and "Powerful Country in Dredging." An internationally competitive, effective and environmentally friendly dredging system which is equipped with the world's advanced technology should be established to meet the needs of social advancement, economic development, environmental protection and the improvement in people's living standards and thus realize the goal that dredging makes the world a better place to live in.
