Today as never before, the airbag industry is being challenged with increasingly difficult application requirements that stem from government requirements as well as new applications in the vehicle. The FMVSS 226 Ejection Mitigation requirements require greater pressure retention in a higher volume inflatable curtain and new applications such as the seat belt airbag and pedestrian protection airbag must address module size and protection of the occupant from the inflation device. In order to balance this with the economic constraints facing OEMs and their suppliers, engineered solutions require alignment of the technology associated in the components to deliver a synergistic technical solution.
