Thermite type reactions produce high temperatures and hot particles that could make them predestined for ignition of single-serving energetic gas generators. 19 different mixtures containing Al, B, Fe, Mg, Ti and Zr as fuel combined with oxides of Mo, W, Ni, Fe and Cr were prepared and burned as bulk material and in tubes. Tests were performed under nitrogen in a window bomb resulting in fast but constant regression rates of 5 to 90 mm/s and high temperatures of 2000 to 3000 K that are suitable for igniter applications.
