Reinforcement Design and FE Analysis of Big Opening in Gas Transmission Pressure Pipe

There are many gas distribution facilities in large distance gas transmission pressure pipe, which can be made by opening in the pressure pipe. The manufacture of the structure is related with the big opening reinforcement design of pressure pipe. The types of opening usually exceed the rule of pressure vessel design standards, like GB150 or ASME BPVC Ⅷ-1, while it is not limited in gas transmission design standards, like GB5O251 or ASME B31. 8. Equivalent area method is recommended in these standards. The calculation procedure of big opening of gas transmission pressure pipe using this method is introduced by a project engineering exmple of extruded tee. In addi tion, in order to evaluate the design result, general finite element software is used to do mechanical analysis and stress intensity assessment of the structure of the tee according to analytical design standard of pressure vessel JB4732. The result shows that the equivalent area method can fully satisfy the strength requirement.
