Contrary to the feature of the cavity contents of the cross-section image of Fiberboard, the areas of multiply connected regions in an image are required to be calculated. A new fast algorithm is presented, which can be calculated multiply connected regions efficiently, simple by only once scanning. Comparison of methods on two images through experiment, the result indicates that the new method is more efficient when deals with to calculate the areas of multiply connected regions.
