Cellular manufacturing (CM) is one of the best ways to suit the demand of high variety and low batch. A cell line layout method based CM mode using calculation of production line balance (PLB) is presented in this paper. In this method, division of cellular processes, layout logical strategies are designed firstly; cell formation model is established as well. As for an existing case of PPL, its physical layout is built in virtual environment using the QUEST software, meanwhile, the model of inner and inter cell layout is given by PLB. Through the simulation in QUEST software, the model of cell processes and cell line layout are simulated, from the simulation result, it is shown that: (1) the PLB rate of the existing PPL has made a difference obviously, but it is balance for its labors. (2) The number of manufacturing processes has been decreased evidently. (3) Its area and labor utilization of cell line layout are improved. This research results will provide the references for PPL.
