Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) is widely used in automobiles, home appliances and any other various industries. Its quality is also getting more and more attention. VFD defect detection has become a widely used application for the machine vision. The typical defect detection method is template matching. However, template matching is time-consuming when the template is large. Feature matching is relatively faster. But feature matching generally has poor localization accuracy, so it can not be used directly to detect tiny defects. Thus a new corner-guided template matching method is presented for defect detection. Experimental data show that the new method is effective and efficient.
