How to locate the data item in a decentralized network is always the fundamental problem. In this paper, a researching algorithm SWP2P which is a distributed lookup protocol for P2P network based on small world is proposed for that problem. SWP2P is used in structured P2P network to construct and maintain the overlay. The idea of SWP2P is that it deploys multiple super nodes (Multi-SNs) in each cluster and that each SN has different and fast links to other clusters, which are distinguish from other cluster-based protocols. The result of theory analysis and simulations show that the two important properties of small world in SWP2P, high clustering coefficient and low average hops in object lookup, are better than other structured P2P protocols such as Chord.
