On the bases of the serious problems of using suckerrod pumping system in directional wells, this paper took the effect of the following factors into consideration, such as bending stiffness of the sucker-rod string, viscous damping for ceof fluid, colomb friction force acting on the string from the tubing, trajectory of the well bore etc., established a model for fault diagnosis of sucker-rod pumping system. Based on the precise time-integration method for structural dynamic systems, a precise direct integration method was proposed for the wave equation in the fault diagnosis of sucker-rod pumping systems, and the fault diagnosis system of sucker-rod pumping system which was based on artificial neural networks was developed. This study would help discovering operating condition of sucker-rod pumping system accurately and opportunely, reducing the oil production cost, raising the economic benefit of oilfield and improving the information of enterprise based degree of oil field. The special numerical examples were calculated by this fault diagnosis system, the diagnosis system could make the fault diagnosis of sucker-rod pumping system by browser swiftly and accurately.
