In open pit mines, stability of slopes is a key to safety for production, persistence and economic benefit. The influence factors of slope stability increase when slopes become higher and steeper, so it is very important to evaluate the mechanical environment of rockmass in slopes. A multi-level model of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation was established on the basis of concepts and methods of environmental quality evaluation in environment science to evaluate the mechanical environment of rockmass in high-steep slopes. Conditions of joint, underground water, the way of mining and quality of rockmass were considered in the model. The model is also used in Shuichang iron mine, a large-scaled open pit iron mine in China. According to the maximum subject principle of fuzzy theories, the migmatite in district II of shuichang iron open pit mine is fair by the value of membership grade of 0.58, but it is also showed that the rockmass belongs to the rating of good for the value of membership grade of 0.17 and poor of 0.18. In this way, the result provided full information of the rockmass. Therefore, mining should be carried out flexibly according to the mechanical environment of rockmass to keep safe and highly efficient.
