As the South Vietnamese victory in the Spring of 1972 became apparent, it was clear that the attack helicopter had been the decisive factor in both Military Regions II and III. Colonel William Miller, the senior US Advisor on the ground in An Loc has often been quoted as saying "the Cobras were the instruments of our salvation,"12 referring to the AH-IGs of F Battery, 79th Aerial Field Artillery's outstanding performance in eliminating twenty NVA tanks within the city limits of An Loc. Meanwhile further north in MRII, the NUH-lBs of the First Combat Aerial TOW Team had similar successes against tanks and other enemy vehicles and turned back the North Vietnamese invaders around Kontum.
