Samples of double based, surface coated propellant have been stored for different time periods at different temperatures. Diffusion profiles as well as the diffusion constants were determined by IR spectroscopy combined with computer simulations. The results were compared to literature data. The activation energy of the deterrent diffusion was determined from the data. The activation energy of the deterrent migration was determined to 157 ± 10 kJ/mol. Closed vessel investigations were performed for propellant samples stored at different storage times and specific temperatures. The dynamic vivacity is shown at different temperatures and storage times. Plotting the relative vivacity versus logarithm of storage time a strong dependency is observed. The combustion behavior fits well to the deterrent gradient in the propellant.
