A new HMX based PBX particles including graphene oxide (GO) were prepared by a solvent-slurry process. For comparison, the sample including conventional deterrent graphite (G) and non-desensitizer sample were also prepared. The samples were characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) . The impact sensitivity and shock wave sensitivity were also measured and analyzed. The results indicate that the HMX particles are coated by a polymer layer successfully, the crystal type of HMX does not change in the coating process. Moreover, HMX/Viton/GO PBX particles exhibit better thermal stability compared with raw HMX and HMX/Viton particles. Both mechanical and shock wave sensitivities of HMX/Viton/GO samples are much lower than that of HMX/Viton. Meanwhile, GO sheets exhibit better desensitizing effect than G sheets. These combined properties suggest that nano-GO has good compatibility with HMX and can be used as desensitizer in HMX based-PBXs.
