When the rotating b and of a spin stabilised projectile fails during launch, the spin imparted to the projectile is less than that of a normally launched projectile. Three different results relating to the projectile stability are possible. Despite the lower spin rate the projectile can still be stable at launch, the projectile can be unstable at launch but return to stability some time after launch, or the projectile may remain unstable for the entire trajectory. In a worn tube trial all three possible stability conditions were observed. In this paper we present the results of the trial.
