Deploying PGP whole disk encryption in Mac OS X

The University Of Washington Department of Surgery IT Services Group supports faculty, researchers, and staff within a clinical hospital environment and at multiple sites. Because of the need to secure protected health information (PHI) due to regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the department had previously implemented a PGP Universal and PGP Desktop solution for the whole disk encryption of faculty and staff laptops. At the time this solution was selected and implemented, PGP did not have a whole disk encryption product for Macintosh systems. However, in August 2008, PGP released their WDE product for Macintosh.
