PROBABILISTIC DISTRIBUTION OF LANDING ACCIDENTS AROUND AIRPORTS

Correct planning of surrounding areas around airports is the main tool in order to safeguard the territory from risks of air accidents. In the past;;a huge series of fatal events occurred in these areas due to various causes. Most of accidents occur during the take-off and landing phases and involve not only passengers and crew of the vehicle but also a vast territory around airports with a large number of residents that;;in some cases;;have paid a high toll in terms of lives. Safety zones around the airports can be defined by the air crash risk assessment a person living near the airport has. Recently;;ENAC (Ente Nazionale Aviazione Civile) and Sapienza-University of Rome have implemented a data-base of air accidents occurred in last 15 years all over the world. The collected data have been analysed in order to define the probabilistic distribution of landing accidents around the runway. This paper deals with the distribution of landing accidents around a runway and the proposed curve is compared with those ones developed by other researchers in the past years.
