REVISITING THE CONCEPT OF AIRPORT SECURITY WITH THE QUESTION OF FLU VIRUS A (H1N1)

The recent emergence of hypervirulent subtypes of flu virus A (H1N1) has underlined the potentially devastating effects of pandemic influenza especially through airport security (Colliza and al, 2005). The assess of the potential of local control measures and travel restrictions to impede global dissemination, has been developped by stochastic models (Cooper and al, 2006 and Colliza and al, 2006). The question of flu virus A (H1N1) opens different implications and practices concerning air transport risk, how to characterize it, measure it and limit it therefore arises with acuity. Several scenarios had been envisioned : Grais and al, 2003 has compared the spread of the flu in 1968-1969 and the SARS in 2002 in Hong-Kong; Abeyratne (2006) has examined some of the implications for air travel of an avian influenza pandemic; Hodgkinson (2007) has approached the question of the influence of the role of WHO and air travel restrictions are either likely to be of little value in delaying pandemics. The theoretical and practical interest of this paper is willing to indicate the new criteria such as precautionary principle, the rate of interregional spread and timing of influenza and the new indicators about travel restriction and airport security.
