Current field operational tests are typically individually constructed to evaluate a restrictedclass of use cases and associated applications. The heterogeneity in this field makes it difficultto seamlessly integrate proprietary tools and infrastructure to support the process of testing.The most important aim of the ITS Test Beds project is therefore to enable the re-use andconsolidation of resources made available by test sites for test procedures developed andexecuted by other test sites and institutions.These resources can be software assets such as validation and reference implementations ofstandards and specifications or tools such as modelling and simulation software. Resourcescan also refer to infrastructure assets and expertise. The ITS Test Beds architecture hasidentified the different entities necessary to establish an integrated ITS test site and therelation between these entities. The resulting framework and operational environment must besuitable for conducting laboratory, small and large scale field operational tests on a pan-European and global scale, in a cost effective and objective manner.A prototype implementation provides a procedure and Service Oriented Software approach tointegrate different distributed services into a new consolidated test facility. The data of all trialruns is stored in a central data repository and again made available to the test bed communityfor further processing and analysis.ITS Test Beds is a FP7 project funded by the European Commission. The project started inFebruary 2009 and ends in April 2011. At this time a first limited version of the ITS Test Bedstoolset is available for evaluation by ITS stakeholders.
