Application of GMS Modeling for Evaluation on Shallow Groundwater Resources in the Plain Areas of Haihe River Basin

Groundwater supply in the plain area of the Haihe River Basin accounts for 70% of the total water supply. Exploitation and utilization of groundwater plays an important role in social and economic development of the Haihe River Basin. Owning to inherent shortage of water resources in the Haihe River Basin and long-time over-exploitation, water level has been decreasing with each passing year, causing a series of geological calamities, which endanger sustainable development of society and economy. This paper constructs a GMS modeling for the Haihe River Basin plain area based on hydrogeological conditions of the area, distribution law of aquifer areas, hydrogeological parameters and observation data on groundwater, and conducts calibration and verification on the modeling with data obtained from 700 observation wells in the area. The modeling is used to simulate changes of shallow groundwater in the Haihe River Basin plain area in the period from 1980 to 2000; Furthermore, groundwater resources amounts in the area have been evaluated, which provides a basis for planning and management on groundwater in the plain area of the Haihe River Basin.
