The Role of Daliushu Project in the Process of Maintaining the Healthy Life of the Yellow River

Over the past 60 years during which the people managed Yellow River, tremendous achievements have been yielded in the development and management of Yellow River which, however, has an extremely complex and difficult task. The current healthy life of the Yellow River is also facing a serious crisis. YRCc puts forward the new concept of river management as " Maintain the healthy life of Yellow River". The specific signs for the healthy Yellow River can be summed up as, having an unobstructed safe access to water and sediment; having continuous river runoff; having good quality water; having a stable river ecosystem; maintaining the basic water supply capacity of Yellow River for the economic and social development. In accordance with the strategic position and development tasks of Daliushu Hydro-Project (the Project)in the management and development of the Yellow River, in response to the main logo to maintain the healthy life of the Yellow River, the paper presents a comprehensive analysis and demonstrates the role of the Project in sediment reduction in Ningxia-Mongolia reaches, ice prevention, flood control, water supply, ecological flows, and in coordinating water-sediment relationship in the lower reaches and increasing power benefit of cascade power stations in the upper reaches.
