Recent research has shown that the conventional Critical State Theory (CST) is inadequate in modeling natural clays since the unified model was developed from behavior of saturated remolded clay which does not take into account factors such as the intrinsic composite geo-structure stress history, stress path, drain conditions and strain rate. This paper discusses and mathematically derives the Modified Critical State Theory (MCST), developed on the basis of the characteristics of model, natural and remolded clays. The importance and versatility of the MCST is demonstrated through some applications introduced within the framework of the Modified Critical State Soil Mechanics(MCSSM).
