INFLUENCE OF INLET ASYMMETRIESON THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MULTIPLE SPRAY FLAMES

A mathematical model is presented to describe the characteristics of an array oflaminar, polydisperse spray diffusion flames. In order to assess the mutual influenceof adjacent flames, arrays of four and six spray flames were solved for semi-analytically and numerically under certain simplifying assumptions and utilizing asectional method to describe the spray of droplets. The computed results show astrong coupling between the geometric, spray and flow parameters of the system andthe heights, shapes and types of flames formed. This coupling points to a potentialway of controlling the combustion in multiple arrays of burners so as to achieveoptimal efficiency. Under such circumstances reduced production of undesirable sootand pollutants may be plausible.
