Nanoparticles of cadmium sulfide (nano-CdS) have been prepared from an aqueous solution of cadmium chloride and sodium sulfide by in-situ process using microcrystalline cellulose as substrate material. The structure and the properties of the composite microcrystalline cellulose and cadmium sulfide particles obtained were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) and fluorescence spectrum. According to AFM images, the obtained micro-nano-CdS particles evenly distributed on the surface of microcrystalline cellulose, with the size of 20-100 nm. The photoluminescence spectrum (PL) of CdS/MCC composite particles displayed peaks ranging from 510 nm to 540 nm, exited at the wavelength of 420 nm. The fluorescent nano-composites prepared are useful in the fields of light, electricity and would have application as fluorescent label in biological detection and medicine.
