The study of the fracture of rockburst notches of circular caverns is presented. A numerical solution of the full-field stress distribution of rockburst notches was obtained by Kolosov-Muskhelishvili's complex variable function method. A method to determine the fracture of rockburst notches is proposed using the Mohr-Coulomb criteria as the fracture criterion. Considering the effect of high stress concentration, a characteristic length is introduced in the tip of rockburst notches. The rockburst notches will fracture when the stress state of a point on the circle, where the characteristic length is the radius, meets the fracture criteria. The characteristic length is then obtained through experimentation. The purpose of this paper is to provide a reference for engineering applications through a quick-solver method for the fracture of rockburst notches of underground openings.
