The less-than-truckload problem with a single-type vehicle is not only typical but also important in the distribution field. It includes both the vehicle filling problem (VFP) and vehicle routing problem (VRP), which mutually interact and restrict each other. By introducing the residual space and its correlative operations, an integrated optimized model based on residual space is proposed, and a new interactive algorithm suitable for the above model is designed. Simulation experiments demonstrated the feasibility of joint optimization and the effectiveness of both the model and algorithm, by comparing it with two kinds of separate sub-problems, preferentially considering VRP or VFP, respectively.
