An Interpretative Model of G-G Diagrams of Racing Motorcycle

In this paper an analytical interpretative model is used to explain some peculiar features of g-g diagrams of racing motorcycles.Experimental evidence shows that acceleration envelope produced by motorcycle racing riders do not completely fill the ellipse of adherence.The shape of this envelope has the twofold meaning of quantify the motorcycle maneuverability and evaluate the rider's maneuver performance.Theoretical g-g diagrams will be analytically derived that are comparable with the experimental ones.The influence of main motorcycle design parameters on the envelope shape is analyzed and discussed.Finally,the optimal braking maneuver is calculated to prove that a correct driving strategy will completely fill the ellipse of adherence when physically possible.
