Proper and in-time hearth drainages are very important to the blast furnace stabilization. A better understanding on the hearth dynamical drainage process will be very helpful to achieving good hearth drainage performances and consequently improving the blast furnace stability and productivity. In this paper, a 3-D blast furnace hearth drainage model was deployed to simulate the hearth drainage processes under the different hearth conditions. The 3-D hearth drainage model is coded in Fortran and the multi-phase turbulence flow is considered in the model. Simulations showed that the drainage performance, such as cast duration, slag delay time, and residual hot metal level, and etc, are significantly influenced by the coke size, hearth permeability, and the slag viscosity. In this paper, the detailed simulation results were presented and discussed.
