@@To prevent serious eutrophication, the Environment Ministry of China has raised the nutrient discharge standard of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to stricter conditions. Therefore the existed WWTPs are required to be operated in nutrient removal mode. Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic (AAO) process is popular applied in the process design and update in China. However actual nutrient removal is often unsatisfied since there is not enough experience or understanding on the process operation and the influent load of WWTP varies all the time.
