Introduction Disposal of unwanted weapon systems due to demilitarization causes pollution problems at military complexes and the major contaminant at many military sites is 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). TNT in common with most explosive compounds, is toxic, mutagenic and highly energetic. It has been shown to be toxic to fish, algae, microorganisms and threatens human health. Hence, removal of TNT from soil, surface water and ground water has attracted a lot of attention.
