Shijingshan gymnasium was established in 1989 for the Asian Came. The structure is composed of three double layer hyperbolic paraboloid latticed shells. After being used for almost 20 years, some member bars have been rusty because of external corrosion, which could reduce the bearing capacity of a particular structure. Related specifications and methods have also been improved. So it is necessary to re-analyze the force performance of this structure, and to provide appropriate reinforcing proposals according to current specifications.In this paper, the shell structure of Shijingshan gymnasium was being analyzed on the aspects of static and dynamic by structure analysis software SAP 2000. The problems of the structure were found: some bars were lack of strengths, and some others were not stiff enough.There are two methods to solve the matter of strengths: unloading and FRP. To unload, support points need to be added to the structure, so it is difficult for construction. FRP reinforce method is broadly used in concrete structures, but less common in steel structure, especially for axially stressed members. In this paper, the strength is increased with unloading and FRP based on the strengthening principles; additional braces are used to change the stiffness.By these strengthening methods, both of the strength and stiffness of Shijingshan gymnasium can be greatly improved.
