The purpose of this paper is to introduce a collection of collaborative-learning activities designed to supplementtraditional instruction on lean manufacturing principles and methods. Many courses, seminars, workshops,certifications, and degree programs have been created to help students and working professionals gain theknowledge and skills necessary to apply lean principles and methods. The effectiveness of collaborative-learningtechniques has also been demonstrated in a variety of educational domains. A pilot study was undertaken tocomplete a comparative evaluation of traditional teaching methods, laboratory sessions, and collaborative-learningactivities on student learning.
