Distributed layouts have been described as the next best layout solution for reducing material handling costscompared to process layouts. Previous studies on distributed layouts have focused on analytical models forperformance analysis. In this paper, analyses of four types of layouts .– distributed layouts with maximum utilizationrouting, distributed layouts with equal utilization routing, holonic layouts, and process layouts – are studied underperturbations in the manufacturing system.. The performance parameters are – material handling cost, work-in-process,and cycle-time. It is found that the performance of distributed and holonic layouts tend to deteriorate as thedegree of disruptions increase, while process layouts show no deterioration.
