Taking the density of lightning strokes and the density of electric poles into account, we calculated outage rates of each equipment of 6.6kV distribution line due to summer(Mar.-Oct.) and winter(Nov.-Feb.) lightning for 6 years in the Chugoku region located in the western part of Japan. The results are summarized as follows. (1)For equipments excluding surge arresters, outage rates due to winter lightning was more than about 10 times as much as that due to summer lightning. (2)Outage rates of surge arresters due to winter lightning was more than about 40 times as much as that due to summer lightning.
