Sentinel-1 Ship Monitoring Applications

Detailed requirements for ship monitoring, quantified based on a number of distinct operational scenarios, arecompared to the system parameters of Sentinel-1, ESA’s future spaceborne SAR. It is found that Sentinel-1 canprobably serve the majority of the scenarios to an acceptable extent. At the same time, any improvements in thesystem’s parameters (such as noise level, swath width, etc.) would still increase the value of the system for shipmonitoring purposes.
