The hygrothermal behaviour of load-bearing wooden flat roof structures is yet a reason of concern for both planners and constructors. Moisture accumulation is a critical factor, and functionality depends on numerous factors, e.g. indoor and outdoor climate conditions, structural build-up and execution of construction work. A lately conducted construction project of an large-scale industrial timber building in Kassel/Germany was not only soundly assessed with the building physical simulation software WUFI [1], but in addition a monitoring of temperature and moisture in several spots and layers of the load-bearing flat roof has been started, including green roof areas and shaded areas with photovoltaic (PV) panels. Therefore this project yields a valuable opportunity to cross check results of theoretical calculation methods with measured data derived from an actually erected wooden flat roof structure.
