A CBM Environment as Enabled through the DoD Policies for Serialized Item Management (SIM) Item Unique Identification (IUID)

This paper illustrates how the two DoD policies for Item Unique Identification (IUID) [Ref 1] and Serialized Item Management (SIM) [Ref 2] are critical transformational steps needed for the implementation of a successful Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) program. The processes described here are essential components of the total life cycle management practices that are the responsibility of today's DoD weapon system managers.
