Present study is a general review on mechanical and morphological properties of some natural fiber based biodegradable polymer composites. Jute, kenaf and bamboo have been used as reinforcing natural fiber in polyhydroxy butyrate co-valerate (PHBV), polylactic acid (PLA), Poly (butylenesuccinata) (PBS) and cellulose acetate (Bioceta) polymers. Jute-cellulose acetate composites were prepared through compression molding technique. Kenaf-PHBV and bamboo-PL A/PBS composites were prepared through compression followed by injection molding. Tensile, flexural, impact properties biodegradation through soil burial and the fractured surface morphology through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been studied. Effect of surface treatments of fibers on the interfacial adhesion was also investigated. Natural fiber reinforcement improved the mechanical performance of composites. It is observed mat surface treatment improves the fiber-matrix interfacial adhesion in the composites. It is believed that biodegradable polymer composites are the potential candidates to substitute non-degradable thermoplastics under specific applications.
