This article is to reflect on a thermal comfort survey of outdoor spaces with and without plant shading in Taiwan,which is located in the subtropical zone.A total of 837 questionnaires were gathered and climatic factors were measured between April and October on the purpose to access subjects' sensations of temperature,humidity,and wind speed,as well as their expectation for measures to improve thermal adaptation.Significant difference in sensation of humidity was not found among the subjects,but we have recognized obvious correlation between temperature and air ventilation.Higher temperature led to stronger expectation for wind,particularly in sites without plant shade.The fact that acceptable temperature ranges in the two cases fell in 21.2°C~32.1°Cand 18.6°C~25.1°C respectively pointed out that plant shading can significantly broaden the subjects' thermal comfort zone.
