Based on the principle of the ground-prospecting radar and the wave group features of the cracks taking on the radar section plane,the theory,method and the application of cracks detection by ground-prospecting radar is researched.The research started from the mathematic model of the vertical crack and followed the process from simple to complex,including numerical simulation,physical simulation and spot validation.The wave group characteristic rules of the cracks of multiple cases from the single even media to multi-layer even media is summarized.Then the method used for detecting the cracks was developed.The detection practice of the highway shows the nice consistency among the numerical simulation,physical simulation and the spot validation.Sufficient theoretic research and practical evidence proved it is feasible to adopt the ground-prospecting radar to detect the vertical cracks in the structural layer of the highway.When using the ground-prospecting radar to detect the cracks,the transverse sample interval should be small enough and the main frequency for the antenna should be appropriate and the processing parameters for analyzing and processing the radar data should be reasonable that intuitional and reliable results for the crack detection can be attained.The method here can locate the cracks hiding in the structural layer of the highway correctly and provides a new detection way for monitoring and maintaining the highway.
