Practical Design Guidelines for Steel Diagrid Structures

Diagrid structures have been prevalently used for tall buildings worldwide dueto their structural efficiency and aesthetic potential. This paper provides design guidelinesfor diagrid structures for tall buildings. Optimal grid geometry is discussed for diagridsof various configurations. A stiffness-based design methodology for determiningpreliminary member sizes for the diagonals is presented. Guidelines are presented fordetermination of optimal bending and shear deformations depending on grid geometriesand height-to-width aspect ratios of diagrid structures.
