A fast searching algorithm for power system islanding, which called multilevel reduced graph partition algorithm, is presented in this paper. This algorithm firstly establishes directed and weighted graph according to real-time information of power system topology and load flow. Secondly, the graph is gradually reduced to a very small graph by breadth first searching algorithm. Thirdly, an initial partition of this small graph based on grouping information of generators is executed. Finally, the smaller graph and the initial partition are projected back to the original graph, and a refinement of the projected initial partition is executed until the partition meets the demand. The validity of proposed algorithm is verified by the simulation result of IEEE 118-bus power system.
