High Performance CASE Polyols From Recycled Poly(Bisphenol A Carbonate) and Recycled PET

Environmental, health and safety concerns continue to drive rapid growth for environmentally friendly, highly sustainable polyols. Although biobased polyols are sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based polyols, the use of recycled content, especially in combination with biobased feed stocks has remained relatively unexplored. With this in mind, Resinate Materials Group has developed patent-pending technologies which provide high performance polyols using a combination of recycled and biobased raw material streams. Recent efforts have resulted in a method for co-reacting recycled poly(bisphenol A carbonate) with recycled polyethylene terephthalate to form high performance CASE polyols. During this work, clarifying agents for preventing the crystallization of PET polyols were also discovered. This latter technology has potential for improving the inherent FR performance of rigid foam polyols. By harnessing the fundamental properties of recycled PET, biobased feed stocks and other recycle and waste streams, Resinate imparts a unique balance of properties into highly sustainable polyols for coatings and other applications, including excellent hardness and good flexibility.
