There is a growing demand for improved heat insulation materials made by rigid polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (P1R) foams used for building construction, vehicles and ships. Therefore, it is desired to develop a polyol which can meet the requirement of both high flame retardancy and foam properties like thermal conductivity, and a wide spectrum of polyols is proposed. The rigid polyurethane foam is widely used as insulation materials, and the adoption advances mainly on insulation materials for house because of its excellent thermal insulation. On the other hand, high incombustibility is also demanded as insulation materials in the field of building. In order to meet the market demands for flame retardancy, we developed and commercialized a high performance polyol, "NONFLAPOL" capable of exerting excellent flame retardancy in PUR and PIR foams due to formation of carbon layer on the surface of resulted foams using NONFLAPOL when burned. Herein, we demonstrate how NONFLAPOL exhibits heat resistance in a broad range of rigid foam applications.
