A bio-based method to synthesize 1,5-pentanediol (PDO) and its applications in polyols are discussed in this paper. Bio-based PDO was achieved via hydrogenation of tetrahydrofurfuryl (THFA) which is a derivative of furfural. The application properties of PDO in this poster were evaluated by incorporated it into polycarbonatediols (PCDL), polyester diols (PEDL) and other polyols. The performance of these polyols were compared to commercial ones and showed comparable high levels, which means the bio-based PDO has applications in commercial polyols products.
